Getting Started

Shiftwork Squirrel is designed to provide a simple tool to project your roster/schedule/rota on to a calendar, and also use information provided by you to measure your sleep needs, and provide information to assist you to manage your lifestyle around your Shiftwork needs.

Once you download Shiftwork Squirrel, it is easy to set up and use. However, please have a read over our quick start guide to make sure that you do not miss out on any of the functionality.

App Navigation

Here you will be able to view rosters that have been added, change the calendar that is linked to the app and to email us your roster data to help us in fine tuning the sleepy squirrel formula.

This will allow you to add a roster, a single shift or an overtime shift.

Creating your roster

Give your roster pattern a name e.g. 4on 4off, lifestyle roster, Bill’s roster, or whatever so that you can distinguish this roster from any others you may enter

Number of Days:  Record the number of days it takes for your roster cycle to repeat itself, by tapping the -/+ tab button, or tap on the number ‘7’ (the default setting) to bring up the scroll wheel to set one of the more common cycle lengths.  The maximum setting is 371 days, so rosters up to 53 weeks in length can be saved into the App

 

Add Shift:  Add the shift that you want to appear in the roster pattern on the selected day.  Create each shift type separately until you have created all the shifts types you need. If you do not add a shift, then this day will be registered as a day off.

 Adding new shifts

Enter a Shift Name – for example ‘d’ for 8 hour day shift, ‘10’ for a 10 hour shift, ‘N’ for a 12 hour Night shift, ‘Late’ for a Late shift, etc.  Tap the ‘colour’ button, to set your preferred colour for each shift type.  You can use a different colour for each different shift or group like shifts with the same colour if you want

Enter  Shift Notes – add any notes you want to describe that shift, for example, "Late shift starting at 11.00pm the night before and ending at 7.00am" or "acting supervisor".

Time - Shift starts at – use the scroll wheel to set the start time for the shift

Shifts lasts for – use the scroll wheel to set the shift length

Alert before shift – set the alert to On/Off

Alert at – use the scroll wheel to set the time of the reminder for up to 24 hours before the shift starts.  You can use this to ensure you clock onto your shift at the right time, or use it as an alarm reminder at a specified time prior to the shift

 

We recommend that you keep track of your sleep hours and how you feel from day to day as you go through your roster. The more data you enter, the more accurate the sleepy squirrel data will be. Use the squirrel heads to measure how you feel on a given day. Then also use the slider to enter the total number of hours of sleep that you got on that day.

It usually takes about 2 weeks for Sleepy Squirrel to gather enough data to give an accurate representation.

If you click on the graph in the bottom right corner, you can see a graphical representation of this data as well as recommendations for improving your sleepy squirrel scores. You can also reset all of your data and start calculating your sleepy squirrel data from scratch.

When a shift is selected, you can use can press "remove" to delete the whole roster. If you press the right arrow, you can then choose to move this shift to a different day in order to perform a shift swap or remove it all together (for example, if you are taking leave)
